Runaway Alice Munro

A book of short stories, some with the same characters. Women of all ages, and different times, all of who seem very real. What a gift.

A Beautiful Boy

This is a book being featured at Starbucks; I gave it to Jessica without getting the author's name. The author writes about the life of his son, who becomes meth addicted. A really moving story, with lots of details, about the up and down addiction of the son, sure to affect with other parents of teen agers.

Plain Truth Jodi Picoult

An Amish girl gives birth to a baby, falls asleep, and wakes up to find the missing baby dead. An interesting, well-told story, with lots of details about the life and beliefs of the Amish families.

The Undomestic Goddess Sophie Kinsella

Very funny, easy read. Story of a London lawyer, up for partnership, who ends up working as a maid, and falling in love with the gardener. But she also unearths a white-collar crime at her firm. I really enjoyed it, and now want to try one of her other long list of titles.

The Slow Moon Elizabeth Cox

Terrific story! Timely. Rape, homosexuality, racism, single parents, and a really good mystery. A fast read, because it is hard to put down.

The Friday Night Kniting Club Kate Jacobs

This book is wonderful. Georgia Walker is a single mom, and successful New York City business owner, whose yarn shop becomes a center for knitters of different skill levels, personalities, etc. There is a Readers Guide at the end, and the final question asks what is the main lesson of the book. Friends are important. Networking is important. Not giving up is important. Knitting is a great medium for creativity, problem solving, and bonding with people you might otherwise never have known.
